To
most lovers of Kefalonia, Zakynthos is its antithesis, with
its reputation for lurid nightlife and, simply, hordes of
tourists. However, the northern end of the island is almost
completely undeveloped, making it an interesting place to
explore on a day trip with the ferry which leaves from the
tiny port of Pessada.
And
although the ferry sails unrealistically early (you virtually
get to witness dawn over Mount Aenos), you can enjoy a typically
Greek coffee service on board, and be in Zakynthos in very
good time.
If
you want to see the tourist spots then hire one of the small
boats which will probably meet you off the ferry, touting
for business, and head off for 'pirates' cove and the Blue
Caves. Here you will have the places literally to yourselves,
before waving at the veritable armada of ferry boats heading
up from Zakynthos Town.
