Myrtos
is the most photographed beach in the whole of Greece, and
as you approach it on the mountain road its easy to understand
why - the incredible colours of the sea contrast with the
dramatic sweep of coral white sand.
Down
at ground level, once you've negotiated the road down from
Divarata, Myrtos itself is a bit of a disappointment. There
are no facilities other than a fairly basic drinks outlet,
and the beach itself is grubbier than it appears from above.
And beware the sea here, because the beach drops away rapidly,
creating powerful undertows and making it a place for strong
swimmers only.
So
why not limit yourself to a photo-stop on your way to somewhere
else (Assos? Fiskardo?) and give the close encounter a miss.
