Throughout
Greece meat plays a major role in traditional cuisine, and
Kefalonia is no exception, with lamb in particular featuring
prominently on almost every menu. Chicken, too, is very popular,
either roast or grilled over charcoal. To say nothing of pork
and beef - also widely eaten. With beef, however, beware -
Greeks are keen on veal, and it isn't always easy to discern
this from the menu.
Perhaps
the most famous dish is Kefalonian Meat Pie, which pretty
much speaks for itself, and can be found almost everywhere.
If
your tastes are a little more exotic, then rabbit and goat
can often be found as dishes of the day, and you may even
be lucky enough to find an occasional game bird - hunting
is very popular in Kefalonia.
