It
is difficult to believe that Lixouri once had pretensions
to being Kefalonia's capital, being isolated on its own peninsula,
and lacking the natural harbour enjoyed by Argostoli, one
wonders what it had going for it.
Having
said that, it is a nice enough town with a pleasant square
facing the (man-made) harbour, where you can enjoy a beer
or two as the world goes by, and with a decent beach within
a couple of kilometres, it offers a good compromise of facilities
for day and evening.
With
the regular (and cheap) ferry to and from Argostoli, you won't
be as cut off as you might think, but watch out for hotels
based near the striking beach at Xi - though often described
in the brochures as 'Lixouri' in reality are quite isolated

Pluses
Nice
atmosphere. Nearby beach.
Minuses
Quiet
and limited compared to Argostoli. |
