Lassi
is the largest and oldest of the island's tourist resorts and
is often regarded as the cheapest and tackiest. Whilst there
may be some truth in that description - it certainly has its
fair share of eateries that owe more to tourist-trappery than
to authentic local values - Faliraki it is NOT. And, as is often
the case, there are several good reasons why Lassi was the first
of the islands resorts to be developed. First
and foremost, the Makris Yialos beach is exceptional... a
delightful long stretch of golden sand bordering a typically
Greek vivid blue sea ideal for swimming (and various watersports)
- and superb for children.
And
as evening comes, the westerly orientation makes it a great
location to appreciate the superb Ionian sunsets over the
Lixouri peninsula (forget Santorini... this is the real deal).
And if your budget can stand it, sipping a cocktail outside
the White Rocks Corner Bar as the sun goes down takes some
beating. |

Pluses
Fabulous
beach. Close to Argostoli. Great sunsets.
Minuses
Busy.
Mixed standard of eateries.
Perhaps Lassi's best asset is its proximity to Argostoli -
a brisk walk over the intervening headland or a short (and
cheap) taxi ride away depending on your bent - and you can
leave (most of) the tourists behind to enjoy the genuinely
Greek atmosphere (if somewhat in the modern style) of the
island capital.
Lassi
is awash with accommodation for all styles and pockets, but
watch out for the devlopments high up on the hillside - the
views may be spectacular but the hike last thing at night
is not!
