When
the olive oil becomes just too much, there are a selection
of restaurants in and around Argostoli and Lassi which offer
a change from the regular Greek menu.
There
are several Italian-style eateries - not least to cater for
the hordes who arrive from across the Ionian during July and
August - and the small place nearly opposite the Tax Office
has a particularly good reputation.
For
more exotic tastes, ther are two chinese restaurants, one
on the main road in Lassi, and the second on the road from
Lassi towards Fanari. There is also an itinerant indian outlet,
currently to be found down the road from the Hotel Mirabel
in the corner of Argostoli's square. For connoiseurs, none
of these will probably match the high standards to be found
in England, but at least they exist!
Otherwise,
why not try 'Casa Grec' or 'Porta'. The former is almost behind
the aforementioned Hotel Mirabel, and the varied menu is delivered
with remarkable consistency by the chef Kostas, who learned
his trade in Canada. In summer the experience is enhanced
by dining in the charming garden.

'Porta'
is on the left hand side of the big road leading north off
the main square, and provides an ever-changing menu which
is positively adventurous by Greek standards. The food is
an excellent standard and draws on culinary influences from
across the globe.
