Having
lost the ferry connection to Ithaca some years ago, Ayia Efimia
has more recently re-invented itself as the cheaper, though
not necessarily down-market, alternative to Fiskardo for the
ever-growing sailing market. The re-furbished quayside is
now home to a swath of smart cafes and tavernas, as well as
numerous Sunsail yachts and their like.
But
it remains a charming harbour town, and boasts a 'proper'
Kafenion (i.e. run by ageing Greeks, frequented by ageing
Greeks, and with card tables inside! - one of the few left
on the island) - and if you don't mind the lack of sandy beaches
it makes a very relaxing place from which to explore the eastern
side of Kefalonia. |
