Reached
either from Svoronata or Kaligata, Avithos beach is a long,
sandy and relatively under-populated beach with extremely
gently shelving waters which are ideal for swimming. The view
is enhanced by a couple of rocky outcrops which appear to
be floating on the sea, on one of which there is a solitary
church. We have never had it adequately explained why!
There
is a nice small beach bar, and there are two tavernas set
a little back, the nearer serving fine quality traditional
Greek fare, and the farther having been recently refurbished
in a very modern style.
There
is little to criticise about Avithos, except that in the height
of the season it can be busy, and of course that it's something
of a trek to get there.
